ADUs Are Here to Stay
With the new state regulations enacted January 1st, the development and construction of ‘granny units’ is skyrocketing in California. The bill (SB-13) introduced by Senator Bob Wieckowski, greatly relaxes and streamlines the development of ADUs in California.
Bill SB 13
SB 13 requires cities to send ordinances to the Community Housing Department for review. If the city is not compliant, the city must fix the issue or face being reported to the office of the Attorney General for violation of the law. Unlike previous bills, SB 13 gives the state a greater ability to force compliance.
Significantly reduces fees imposed by City to permit/construct ADUs.
Streamlines permitting process with the city.
Relaxes regulation on zoning, parking, & other criteria.
Overall cuts back red tape previously involved with constructing an ADU.
